Upcoming Meeting Details

Meeting Date: May 23, 2011

IEEE West Michigan Consultant's Network
Monday, May 23, 2011 Meeting Announcement

Greetings everyone!

Our next meeting is this coming Monday, May 23. I've moved it earlier one week due to the Memorial holiday. I'd like to welcome back as speaker for the night, Jim Van Prooyen. Jim will be speaking on something that I'm sure will be near and dear to all of our hearts:

50 Years of Manned Space Program
Over the last year there have been many changes in the US manned space program, the Space Shuttle will be retired in the next few months, and for the first time in 50 years there is no major federal program to replace it. This talk will review the history of West Michigan's contribution to Manned Space flight and look at several new manned spacecraft that have been proposed or are entering the prototype phase of development. Some of the questions we will try to answer are: Why are we retiring the Space Shuttle, will the plan for privatization work, can the ISS (International Space Station) get along without the Space Shuttle, will the Russians allow any of these new spacecraft to dock with the ISS, will any of these new spacecraft have a lower cost than the Space Shuttle? So come and enjoy a look at the past, and a possible peek at what may be ahead.

The format of the evening will be as follows:

6:00pm - Dinner at the Grand Rapids Brewing Company (NW corner of 28th St & Lake Eastbrook Blvd)
7:30pm - Meeting at DornerWorks - www.DornerWorks.com (NW corner of Lake Eastbrook Blvd & Camelot)
